National FFA Week: Celebrating Leadership, Agriculture, and Opportunity
Each year, thousands of students across the United States celebrate National FFA Week, a time dedicated to recognizing the impact of the National FFA Organization and the vital role agriculture plays in everyday life. Typically held in February to coincide with the birthday of George Washington—a farmer and agricultural innovator—National FFA Week highlights the organization’s mission of developing premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
Founded in 1928, the National FFA Organization is a nationwide youth organization that prepares students for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture. Originally known as the “Future Farmers of America,” the organization has evolved to reflect the diversity and scope of modern agriculture. Today, FFA serves members in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, representing a broad range of interests—from animal science and agribusiness to environmental sustainability and agricultural communications.
FFA is an integral part of agricultural education programs in middle and high schools. Students enrolled in agricultural education courses can join FFA and participate in hands-on learning experiences that go beyond the classroom.
National FFA Week is more than a celebration—it’s an opportunity to educate the public about agriculture and recognize the achievements of FFA members. Schools may host special dress-up days, community breakfasts, farm safety demonstrations, and appreciation events for teachers and supporters. These activities foster school spirit while emphasizing the values of teamwork, service, and leadership.
The week also serves as a reminder of agriculture’s importance. From the food on our tables to the clothes we wear and the fuel that powers vehicles, agriculture affects everyone. FFA helps ensure the next generation is prepared to meet global challenges such as food security, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
