Apparent Stand Off Ends With Multiple Charges Against Spirit Lake Man

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–A Spirit Lake man is in custody following what appears to have been a stand off with police late Sunday evening.

Police Chief Shane Brevik tells KICD News officers originally responded to the Hawthorn Apartments in the 2000 block of 32nd Street around 10:15 to a report of an man brandishing a handgun and threatening others inside.

Responding units were able to safely evacuate the victims with the suspect, 22-year-old Brian De Jesus Alameda, remaining inside for an unspecified amount of time before eventually being talked into putting down his firearm and surrendering.

De Jesus Alameda has been charged with going armed with intent, assault and domestic abuse assault both with intent to inflict serious injury, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted by officers from the Okoboji, Arnolds Park and Milford Police Departments along with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
