Waseca, MN (KICD)– Several marching bands from Northwest Iowa were among the nearly 20 groups converging in South Central Minnesota on Saturday for the 31st Annual Waseca Marching Classic.
In total there were four bands from the KICD listening area, including The Force from Spirit Lake, Sheldon, Sioux Center and Worthington, all showing off the shows they have been working on through the summer.
Jon Loy is the director for Spirit of Worthington Trojans Marching Band and he tells KICD News the parade band of 160 total students is performing a new show this year based around United States history.
Loy says, they use more of a summer band performance style for their fall season.
We also caught up with Tyler Pedersen (Petersen), the director of The Force from Spirit Lake, who told us a little bit about the show being performed by the group of 60 students.
Pedersen says a new show is performed each year in order to give a change to the performers and the audience.
At the end of the day, Worthington walked away with first place in Class AAA (3A) along with the People’s Choice Award and Parade Sweepstakes.
The Force ended their day in third place, less than one point behind Sioux Center in Class A. The Sheldon Marching Band was able to capture the top spot in that same class.
