Spencer, IA (KICD) — For the first time publicly, Spencer officials revealed Dollar General Stores is buying Highway 71 frontage from the city for a new store. The city now needs to construct a street for access for the rest of the parcel that Dollar General is NOT buying.
Engineer Brian Schmidt put together the estimated price of the project for the city council.

The city purchased the nearly six acres in May of 2022 for a quarter of a million dollars.
The sale price to Dollar General has not been disclosed. City Manager Dan Gifford says the deal should be final by the end of the month with construction slated to be done by fall.
