Countdown to Summer: Arnolds Park Museums

Arnolds Park, IA (KICD)– Our preview to Summer at Arnolds Park Amusement Park continues with a glimpse inside the three museums on the campus.

Attractions from the old Fun House are a favorite in the park museum, where entire families – including generations who rode it in the original location – wait in line to ride the old wooden slide. The Iowa Rock and Roll Museum has rotating displays and videos archiving live music from the 1950s through the 70s. But the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum was first. It’s spot in the Iowa Welcome Center is full of nautical history, including a new display this year according to director Mary Kennedy.

But not all of the contents are nautical related. There’s a large display of old resort signs, and a corner dedicated to old retailers that served the summer visitors.

Of course the most popular displays at the Iowa Great Lakes Museum are ships that sank and have been rescued from the bottom of the lake.
