Emmetsburg, IA (KICD)– New details have been revealed in a Palo Alto County murder case after a body of a Southeast Iowa man was discovered in a lake south of Ruthven last month.

Court documents filed last week show an autopsy found the victim, 27-year-old Rollin Bontrager, had sustained multiple lacerations to the head consistent with being beaten by a bolt cutter before his body was dumped in Virgin Lake and found several days later.

Surveillance footage from various locations in Emmetsburg reportedly shows Bontrager last being alive with the suspect, 29-year-old Alan Schwidder, in the early afternoon hours of July 19th. Witnesses have also alleged Schwidder admitted to killing Bontrager on multiple occasions later that night.

Schwidder was arrested in Lake Park Friday night and charged with first degree murder. He remains in the Palo Alto County Jail on one million dollars bond.
