Estherville, IA (KICD) — Members of the Estherville Parks and Recreation board and Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday for the new aquatic center.
Pool manager Desiree Welty says the pool has been quite popular since opening to the public on Monday.
Welty felt that the soft open on Sunday was a good opportunity for the staff to get used to working in a pool as some of them were new to being lifeguards. She acknowledged that there is a learning curve to the job, but so far everyone has done a good job of rising to any challenges.
The aquatic center opening met with delays multiple times due to supply chain issues. Chamber Executive Lexi Rueter was pleased to finally be able to witness the fruits of the labor of the city and community.
Being next door the the Regional Wellness Center’s splash pad could seem like the start of a fierce rivalry, but Rueter says the Estherville pool was designed to coexist with their neighbor.
Welty said community feedback so far has been positive.
The Estherville Aquatic Center is open from noon until 8 p.m. daily. Daily admission is $5 and season passes are available for $65 for an individual pass or $140 for a family of up to seven either at the center or from the Parks and Recreation office. Concessions are available but are still cash purchase only for now, but cards should be usable in the near future.
