Storm Lake, IA (KICD) — A two vehicle fatal accident is being investigated.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened around 4:20 Thursday morning on Highway 71 north of the Buena Vista and Sac County line.

A 2001 Buick LeSabre was traveling north on Highway 71 and passed a commercial vehicle in a no passing zone on a hill. Upon cresting the hill, the Buick collided head on with a southbound 2002 Chevy Trailblazer driven by 55-yr old David Munoz of Storm Lake and then immediately became engulfed in flames.

When law enforcement arrived, they found the burning vehicle with the other vehicle sitting beside it with Munoz still inside. A deputy and police officer got him out of the vehicle that wasn’t burning and was taken to the Storm Lake Hospital and later transferred to a Sioux City Hospital.

The other vehicle on fire was extinguished, but the driver of it was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased driver has not been released, pending notification. The accident remains under investigation.
