Manson, IA (KICD) — A Pomeroy woman was injured in an accident that claimed a life.

On Friday the Iowa State Patrol said the accident happened shortly after noon on Highway 7. Three vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lane while waiting for a pilot car to taken them through a one-lane section which was reduced due to construction.

Then an eastbound minivan, driven by Jewell Casey of Pomeroy, failed to stop and rear-ended a pickup causing a chain reaction with the three vehicles. The driver of the pickup, Eugene Zimmel of Manson, died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Casey and Alicia Cole of Rockwell City were both injured and transported to the Fort Dodge Hospital. It was unknown why Casey didn’t stop as she approached the other vehicles.
