Names Released In Fairmont Shooting

Fairmont, MN (KICD) — Law Enforcement have released the names of the two officers and the person killed in an incident that happened Saturday in Fairmont, Minnesota.

The police officers have been identified as Sergeant James Tietje and Officer Craig Fowler.  The person shot is identified as 23-year-old Nicholas Daniel Moore of Fairmont.

According to the BCA’s preliminary investigation, the officers responded to a 911 call at 2:20 A.M. concerning someone being threatened in an apartment in the 1200 block of Victoria Street.  When officers arrived on scene, they confronted Moore who had two knives. Moore came at the officers and Officer Fowler fired his weapon.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fowler sustained minor injuries while attempting to retreat from the subject and was taken to the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Fairmont.  Both Officers are on standard administrative leave during the investigation.

The Fairmont Police Department does not use body cams.  When the investigation is completed, the BCA will turn over the findings to the Martin County Attorney’s Office for review.
