Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– Federal and state grant money is helping the Northwest Iowa Corridor Habitat for Humanity kick off an ambitious project.
Spirit Lake Zoning Administrator Clyde Ihrke says a vacant half-block near Iowa Lakes Community College will become a housing development.

Habitat Director Joe Bjronstad  tells KICD News the Spirit Lake project will serve 13 families and be done in conjunction with two projects in Spencer.

Families must put sweat equty into the project, and then make monthly payments to help future builds.
The empty land is adjacent to the former Spirit Lake school auditorium and administration building – which are being rehabbed into apartments by a private firm.
