Dickinson County, IA (KICD) — The results for the Okoboji bond issue are in and the bond has passed with a yes vote of 69%.
According to the unofficial election results, there were a total of 2082 votes with 1443 saying yes and 639 saying no, which resulted in a 69% yes vote to a 31% no vote.
60% was needed for the passage. Out of those votes 710 of them were absentee.
Todd Abrahamson, Superintendent of Okoboji Schools took time to speak with KICD and told us that the bond is a great opportunity and was only made possible because of a team effort.
The Okoboji school bond is $25 million dollars and includes plans such as resurfacing the high school football field, building a new stand alone middle school and making much needed repairs to the elementary and high schools.
Abrahamson tells KICD that the most important part of the bond issue is the middle school as the current middle school which is located in Arnolds Park, is not big enough to fill enrollment needs according to a demographic study where the school is expected to add 125 students over the next 5 years.
