Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– A Sioux Rapids man charged with attempted murder following a Dickinson County stabbing last summer has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

29-year-old Darrel Pounds was arrested last August after 22-year-old year Troy Petersen was found to have been stabbed in the chest at a residence in Milford.

Pounds originally pled not guilty last fall and was scheduled to go on trial on Tuesday, but reached a deal that involved him pleading guilty to a lesser charge of willful injury with the court then dismissing the attempted murder, 2nd degree theft and possession of a controlled substance charges.

He was then sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
