Spencer, IA (KICD)– With the 4th of July holiday just days away, many people will be buying and wanting to shoot off fireworks and the Spencer Police Department is reminding everyone of city policy.

While it is legal to buy “First-Class Consumer Fireworks” in the Spencer, their use within city limits is not allowed and failure to follow the law will result in a minimum fine of $250.

First Class Consumer Fireworks include firecrackers, bottle rockets, sky rockets, ariel shell kits and spinners, roman candles and other similar devices.

The Police Department says Second Class and Novelty Fireworks such as ground and handheld sparkling devices, party poppers and sparklers are legal to use within city limits.
