Dickinson County, IA (KICD) — Firefighters battled a restaurant fire in Arnolds Park Wednesday morning.

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department says the initial dispatch was for a smoke alarm activation at the Waterfront Restaraunt located at 610 Linden Drive. Upon arrival at the scene, the firefighters observed light smoke in the entryway to the establishment, and firefighters gained entry to the building through the use of a Knox Box that was installed on-site. Upon entry, they located a small fire in the kitchen area with the aid of thermal imagers and extinguished the fire. Firefighters remained on the scene for 1 hour, evacuating smoke from the building.

Minimal fire and smoke damage was reported. Employees on the site said that they would likely open as scheduled tomorrow.

Firefighters say the fire started in a rag hamper in the kitchen area and was accidental in nature caused by spontaneous combustion. No one was on-site at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
