Spencer, IA (KICD)—A home on the west side of Spencer was heavily damaged when a fire broke out Saturday afternoon.

Spencer Fire-Rescue was called to 1311 3rd Avenue West shortly after two o’clock after an occupant of the home discovered the fire in a back room and called 911.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the eaves of the house and flames from a rear window. Crews were able to quickly knock down the blaze but spent approximately two hours at the scene overhauling and checking for hot spots.

No injuries were reported. The blaze that left heavy fire damage in two rooms and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home is believed to have been caused by a faulty power strip.
