Spencer, IA (KICD)– The State of Iowa is making money available for some property owners to upgrade septic systems, including some local communities.

The Water Infrastructure Fund is getting ten million dollars from the state’s allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act and will provide grants to property owners in unsewered communities to update their waste systems.

Tammy McKeever from Clay County Environmental Health says there may also be a small section of Spencer that could take advantage of this program based on the qualifications.

All eligible property owners in Clay County have been sent notices regarding this opportunity. The ten million dollars being set aside for the program is being disbursed on a first-come-first-served basis.
