Sioux County Accident Results in Fatality

Sioux County, IA (KICD) — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred yesterday at the intersection of Fig Avenue and 305th Street.

According to the report 20-year-old Zachary Van Den Top of Hull was driving southbound on Fig Avenue when he allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign at 305th street and struck 84-year-old Albert Van Zanten in the intersection. The impact from the collision then sent Van Zanten’s vehicle into the eastbound lane where it struck 37-year-old Jerry Gladis.

Van Zanten and a passenger 83-year-old Donald Postma were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Rock Valley for treatment of their injuries.

89-year-old Cornelius Van Zanten was taken to the hospital in Rock Valley where he was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

Van Den Top’s Vehicle was estimated at $8,000 in damage.

Van Zanten’s vehicle sustained an estimated $25,000 in damage.

And Gladis’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000 in damage.

The accident remains under investigation.
