Spencer, IA (KICD)– Members of the local community gathered at Spencer High School on Saturday evening to celebrate the official dedication of the theater in honor of long time teacher and drama director Larry Untiet.

Included in the program was current Large Group Speech Director Becky Koenig who has had the opportunity to see Untiet’s impact on students and the community on multiple levels.

Former Iowa High School Speech Association Director Craig Ihnen also took the microphone during the ceremony calling Untiet a hero in the performing arts world.

When all was said and done, Untiet told KICD News it is very humbling to not only have the facility that he pushed to have built named after him, but to also see the program he loved for 44 years continue to grow.

The idea to name the auditorium the Larry M. Untiet Theatre was first discussed by the Spencer Fine Arts Boosters about a year ago with the official proposal being presented to and approved by the school board in the Fall.
