Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council formally adopted updates to city code on Monday that will lower speed limits in two specific areas.

The first change comes following a request by Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School to turn a section of East 18th Street into a school zone which led to Police Chief Mark Warburton agreeing to an amended plan there and also recommending a change a short distance away near Spencer Middle School.

The council approved a reduction in the speed limit on 11th Street Southwest from the South T westward to the four-way stop sign where Highway 71 then turns south.

Now that both ordinance updates have passed all three readings, it comes down to getting signage updated in the affected areas to make the new speed limits enforceable.
