Spencer, IA (KICD)– Staff and board members with the Spencer Family YMCA are in the process of exploring options when it comes to improving the existing facility.

Board member Paul Daniels says that current building was constructed in the 1960s and has never been fully renovated, just added on to and that age is starting to show especially when it comes to pricing to replace basic infrastructure.

CEO Nathan Prenzlow says a big consideration is how a decision would impact the entire community.

Daniels says part of the problem the exploration is running into is where additional space could be picked up considering the community has really grown around the YMCA over the years.

While nothing has been set in stone as far as which direction the “Y” will go, Prenzlow says the idea of possible new build has led to looking at some potential sites.

Prenzlow and Daniels want to make clear this exploration and planning process is more of a marathon than a sprint meaning no final decisions have been made and consideration of all options will continue into the future.
