Spencer, IA (KICD)– One of the Spencer community’s core agencies, the fire department, will be featured on Thursday as part of the Historical Preservation Committee’s lecture series.

Fire Chief Jesse Coulson says there has been a lot of history for him to learn having been in town for less than a year.

Of course, one of the biggest events related to fire in the city’s history is the blaze of 1931 that wiped out a portion of Downtown Spencer. Chief Coulson says there have been many advancements in the fire service since that time to help avoid such an event from happening again.

That being said there are always updates coming down the line to make sure equipment and personnel are updated and trained anytime the bells sound.

The community can learn more about the history of the Spencer Fire Department, the equipment currently being used and what some of the plans may look like for the future Thursday at 5:30 in Council Chambers and Spencer City Hall. Those that cannot be there in person can view a livestream on the City of Spencer Facebook page.
