Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer School Board recognized outgoing member Jeremy Parsons Tuesday night as he prepares to leave the community and become the leader of the Iowa State Fair.

With an opening created by the departure of Parsons the board decided to fill it through appointment since there is a regular city and school election scheduled for later this year. President Bob Whittenburg tells KICD News the board had some ideas of what they were looking for in a potential nominee.

After visiting with those expressing interest in the open spot, Whittenburg says the board felt Phil Bieber would be the best fit.

Bieber essentially takes over his new role immediately but will have to actually run for the seat in November in order to retain it since it was scheduled to be on the ballot before Parsons announced his resignation.
