Arnolds Park, IA (KICD) — A Spirit Lake fisherman has donated the remains of a wooden boat found at the bottom of Hayward’s Bay on West Lake Okoboji.

Chad Thompson first found the wreckage with his depth-finder two years ago, and recruited Josh Kirschbaum at Okoboji Underwater Recovery Specialists to bring it to the surface this winter.

Thompson is 99 percent sure the boat is a 1942 Century Sea-Maid.

Thompson also did some detective work on the motor.

The boat is now on display at the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum in Arnolds Park. Thompson would love further information on who owned the boat, and the circumstances of it sinking.
