Tornado Hits Sheldon

Sheldon, IA (KICD) — The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado struck portions of Sheldon in O’Brien County late Friday afternoon.

The NWS office in Sioux Falls tells KICD News a brief tornado touched down near the Crossroads Pavillion Event Center and tracked northwest, just shy of one mile, before dissipating to the north of the RiseFest Festival Grounds. There was damage to buildings, including multiple recreational vehicles. The tornado was rated an EF0 – with winds up to 85 mph and a width of 75 yards.

In a written statement by O’Brien County Emergency Management Director, Jared Johnson, he said – “Thankfully no one was injured from this storm system. There were multiple agencies and contractors working on-site to help with the cleanup in different areas in Sheldon. We greatly appreciate all of the assistance.”
