Storm Lake, IA (KICD) — Two people were arrested after police were called to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart in reference to a theft.

The Storm Lake Police Department says responding officers were advised that two female shoplifters allegedly removed items from the store without paying for them and fled in a silver sedan. The suspect vehicle was later stopped by Buena Vista County Deputies on Highway 3, and the vehicle and occupants were returned to Storm Lake.

Police conducted a consent search of the suspect’s vehicle and located $165 in stolen merchandise from Wal-Mart along with a small amount of marijuana.

Police arrested 18-year-old Mia Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa and charged her with theft 5th degree. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.

Police allege the second female provided a false name and she was subsequently identified as a 17-year-old female of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Police learned the juvenile female had been reported missing since September 11th. Police further allege that the juvenile physically resisted officers during the arrest process and was subdued.

Police charged the 17-year-old with possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, theft 5th degree, interference with official acts, and providing false identification. The juvenile female was processed and taken to the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee pending her return to Sioux Falls.
