Northwest Iowa (KICD)– The unofficial results for yesterday’s city and school elections have been tabulated with a couple of very close races being reported in Clay County.

Spencer’s At-Large City Council seat had four candidates with Brian Balk coming out on top by only seven votes over incumbent George Moriarty.

Balk talked with us about his initial goals shortly after those results were announced.

Also contested was the six person race for three spots on the Spencer School Board which resulted in two of the three incumbents, Bob Whittenburg and Bill Zinn retaining their seats and newcomer Shelby Haak taking the third spot by less than 50 votes over Dean Mechler.

Former councilman Steve Bomgaars will return to council chambers, this time as Mayor after receiving 1,135 votes in the uncontested run with 627 write-ins being cast.

Finally, in Peterson Tim Saunders, Judi Calhoon and Ashley Selk were all selected to take an at-large seat on the City Council.

The unofficial results for the rest of the broadcast area can be found on the 2021 Election page.
