Forest City (Radio Iowa) — A film about a German POW camp near Algona has made its initial premiere this week.

The movie “Silent Night in Algona” tells the story of the prisoners in Algona between September and December of 1944. Forest City native Jim Brockhohn plays the role of Uncle Joe in the feature.

Brockhohn says he worked with director Tony Hornus for casting roles, leading to other locals in the main cast.

In addition to cast roles, Forest City residents filled the role of extras along with others recruited from a variety of locations.

The original barracks from the camp are prominently featured as well according to Brockhohn.

1700 prisoners were held in the camp and a nativity scene made by some of those prisoners in 1945 has been a popular attraction for many years.
