Spencer Begins Infrastructure Study

Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The city of Spencer has begun a full study on its wastewater infrastructure. City Manager Kevin Robinson says the city needs to decide whether to update the current plant or build new.

The comprehensive study will examine the way water is channeled to the plant.

Robinson says the plan will also address keeping “clean” water out of the sewage treatment plant to save money. Due to the topography of the city a small portion of the storm sewers empty there now, and it is suspected there are many sump-pumps illegally emptying into the sanitary sewers.

Preliminary data is already coming in with the comprehensive study expected to take 18 months.
