Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Hinton Blackhawks took the 2024 War Eagle Conference Volleyball Title, going 10-0 in Conference play. They will be looking to defend that title, bringing back all of their major leaders in statistical categories after their postseason run was cut a game short of the State Tournament.

Akron-Westfield’s only loss came at the hands of Hinton in League play, otherwise the Westerners went 21-5 overall, seeing their season cut short in the Regional Championship as well by Riverside. Akron-Westfield does see a lot of last year’s production graduate, potentially giving the Blackhawks a big gap on the rest of the League.

Sibley-Ocheyedan will be a team that looks to mix up the middle of the conference after moving in from the Siouxland. Generals head coach Madison Nagel says the team is looking forward to not just new competition but going up against more schools of like size.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn took 7th last season with a 4-6 Conference record. The Hawks have the numbers and applied themselves to offseason workouts according to Coach Ashley Tessum.

South O’Brien lost a key piece from last year’s team in Ashlynn Gunnerson who led the Wolverines in Assists with 408. A lot of power up front is back though for South O’Brien, and Coach Amy Schmidt is excited about the potential of a young athlete to fill the void Gunnerson left.

Harris-Lake Park went winless in the War Eagle for 2025. Kendal Niemeier led the Wolves in both Kills and Blocks a season ago, but Cora Niemeier, who was 2nd and 3rd in those respective categories returns with Mersaydes Orris back in the distribution spot after 173 assists a year ago. Along with War Eagle competition, Harris-Lake Park will see a nice mixture of non-conference opponents in 4 different Tournaments this year.

That was Matt Barnhart, head coach of Harris-Lake Park.

Northwest Iowa Now will bring War Eagle Conference action to your airwaves on September 25th when South O’Brien hosts Sibley-Ocheyedan. That is a match you can hear on News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD.

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary."
