Cherokee, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Cherokee hosted Spencer Thursday night for High School Volleyball. News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD brought you the action.

The Tigers hung around for a while in set 1, but when Ellana Mortenson took the serve, the Braves went on a long run, eventually pulling away to win 25-16.

In set 2, it was another long serving run that began early in the set, this time with Kalexis Hyndman. Cherokee’s top hitter, Deidra Doeden got rolling in Set 2, and the Braves cruised to a 25-8 win to go up 2 sets to nothing.

For set 3, Cherokee slowly pulled away from Spencer, with Mortenson doing a lot of damage with back row Kills. The Braves took set 3 25-12 and completed the 3-0 sweep of Spencer.

Cherokee is now 21-2 on the year and complete a 4-0 run through the Lakes Conference to lock up the League title. Coming up for the Braves will be a resume building opportunity at Western Christian of Hull’s Koooima Varilek Classic. The Tournament features strong in-state teams such as Bishop Heelan of Sioux City, Boyden-Hull, Central Lyon, Hinton, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, East of Sioux City, and Unity Christian of Orange City, not to mention the host, perennial powerhouse Western Christian of Hull. Some potent out of State Teams will also attend such as Dakota Valley, O’Gorman of Sioux Falls, and Roosevelt of Sioux Falls.

Spencer is now 12-17 on the year and 2-1 in Lakes Conference play. The Tigers have an opportunity to lock up a 2nd place finish in the Lakes Conference when they host Spirit Lake on October 7th. That will also be a contest you can hear on News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD.
