KOSSUTH COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) — Multiple schools briefly sheltered in place Wednesday following a reported threat.

Authorities say a phone call was received regarding an outside threat directed at Bishop Garrigan Schools, prompting officials to place both Algona and Garrigan schools into temporary lockdown and shelter-in-place procedures.

North Union and West Bend-Mallard schools were not placed under shelter-in-place orders and operated as normal, but did have an increased law enforcement presence out of an abundance of caution.

Law enforcement responded to all affected buildings, and officials say all students remained safe throughout the incident.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly afterward, and both Algona and Bishop Garrigan schools resumed normal operations, dismissing at their regular times.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details but says there are no signs of any broader threat to the community.

The investigation remains ongoing.
