Alta Library Bond Fails

Alta, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Alta Library Board Chairman Bruce Hinkeldey says the board is disappointed but ready to regroup after voters rejected the $1.25 million bond measure. The proposal, intended to fund a new permanent library in Alta, failed to meet the required 60 percent supermajority.

Hinkeldey told us the decision was hard after two years of planning:

The Chairman noted the no vote was complex, driven by various factors, including tax increase opposition, disagreement over the park location, and a desire to repurpose an existing building. This variety of reasons complicates their next move:

The library will remain in the VFW Hall, a small, temporary, and “not very ideal location”. Hinkeldey says the board will work closely with the City Council and Mayor to include the library in future master plans, ensuring they provide a facility that can serve the public.
