Mason City, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — For the second time in three days a medical helicopter in Northern Iowa struck a bird and had to make an unplanned landing.

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City says Air Med 3 struck a bird – shattering a windscreen – and the pilot set down in rural Worth County between Manly and Hanlontown Tuesday night. Nobody was injured and there was no patient onboard.

Sunday night a medical helicopter owned by Life Flight out of Fort Dodge that was transporting a patient from Spirit Lake to Sioux Falls struck a bird and had to land near Rock Rapids in Lyon County. Luckily no injuries in that incident either.
