Bridge Replacement on 18th Street Begins Next Week

Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — If your daily commute in Spencer takes you across the West 18th Street bridge, get ready for a detour. The long-awaited replacement project is about to begin, closing a key connection for residents and the Country Club area.

Clay County Engineer Cole Budach says crew are for the end of January to begin.

The county is a collaborating with the city of Spencer on this project.

Budach says details on the detour will be published once construction begins.

The 18th Street bridge project is expected to reopen in the Fall of 2026. For now, plan on using 4th or 11th Street to access the Country Club area in North Spencer, and right now that is likely to begin January 26th. Residents will receive a letter in the mail soon communicating any important information.
