Spirit Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Montgomery man who pled guilty to first degree willful injury in an attempted murder case has received his sentence.

19 year old Caleb Crosby was charged with shooting his father on the evening of May 5th. He was scheduled to go on trial for attempted murder October 15th, but pled guilty to the lesser charge. He also pled guilty at that time to first degree theft for stealing a vehicle in an attempt to flee the night of the shooting.

On Monday, Judge David Lester sentenced Crosby to two terms up to ten years at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center to be served consecutively, with credit for time he has already spent in incarceration.

As a prisoner at the Dickinson County jail, Crosby slipped out of an unlocked door and ran down the steps of the courthouse before being taken back into custody. He has also pled guilty for escaping and will be sentenced on that charge later.
