CLAY COUNTY, IA (NorthwestIowaNow) — A two-vehicle collision in rural Clay County resulted in significant vehicle damage Friday afternoon.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 2:48 p.m. on September 26th in the 1500 mile of 350th Street (B24), just outside of Spencer.

Investigators say 25-year-old Marian Altamirano of Spencer was driving a 2014 Chevy Traverse and was preparing to turn south onto 150th Avenue when she was struck by 88-year-old Robert Schoelerman, also of Spencer. Schoelerman was traveling westbound in his 2023 Ford F-150. Authorities say he attempted to pass Altamirano’s vehicle and failed to notice her turn signal, which led to the crash.

No injuries were reported, but both vehicles sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Schoelerman was cited for unsafe passing, a simple misdemeanor.
