Clay County Stop Leads to Drug Charges Against Hartley man

SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A Hartley man is facing a felony drug charge after authorities allegedly found over a dozen THC vape pens during a traffic stop in Clay County.

 

According to court records, a Clay County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 18 on June 26. During the stop, authorities allegedly discovered 20 THC vape pens in the vehicle.

 

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Cruz Angel Tamayo-Gonzalez of Hartley, is also accused of admitting to investigators that he traveled to Minnesota to purchase the vape pens for resale in Iowa.

 

Tamayo-Gonzalez is charged with Controlled Substance Violation, a Class D felony.

 

Court records indicate Tamayo-Gonzalez has entered a plea of not guilty. No trial outcome, sentencing, dismissal, or other disposition has been recorded, and the case remains active in Clay County District Court.
