Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — There’s news about an existing Spencer business, and a new business to report.

Robinson Funeral Home of Spirit Lake has purchased the first lot in the city’s North Y Development area. Owner Korey Robinson tells KICD News he hopes to break ground before winter and open next spring or mid-summer. The sale price for Lot 8 – Southeast across 2nd Avenue from Kwik Star – is just under 254 thousand dollars. The city purchased the property and added infrastructure with the hopes new business would follow. A major emphasis is being placed on luring a hotel/motel, and a fast food franchise.

And Casey’s officials tells KICD News the store damaged in last year’s flood on the West side of Highway 18 will be rebuilt, while the location on the East side will not be. It’s undetermined at this time what will become of that property. The new state-of-the art, 4,569 square foot facility will have full fuel options, and a full kitchen. Some minor updates on the property description were necessary. Construction should begin yet this fall.
