SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Country artist Eli Alger joined Habitat for Humanity and the Spencer community Friday to celebrate the completion of a second home for a family displaced by the 2024 flood.

The ribbon cutting was held November 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the build site, 617 East 10th Street. The home was funded through the Faster Horses Flood Relief Benefit Concert earlier in June, which raised close to $250,000 in cash, materials, and sponsorships.

Alger says seeing the project come full circle is emotional.

Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity, Joe Bjornstad, says the effort was a true community partnership.

Flood survivor and new homeowner Cristina Besaw says the opportunity means everything.

Alger will return early next year for a special performance at the Spencer Community Theater on Friday, January 2nd. Tickets are $10, and seating is limited.
