Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) —  A verdict was reached last week in the trial of a man charged in a deadly Buena Vista County Crash.  On March 12, a jury found Jorge Ortega-Ortega, 28, guilty of vehicular homicide.
The charge stems from a March 2025 head-on collision on Highway 3.  Authorities say Ortega-Ortega was  driving west on the eastbound lane for nearly a mile before striking a vehicle driven by Roseannabelle Bumsted, 65, of Nemaha.   Bumsted was killed in the collision.
Investigators noted Ortega-Ortega had passed a “No Passing” sign before the crash, which occurred about nine miles east of Cherokee.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 5th at the Buena Vista County Courthouse.
