Early March USDA Drought Update

Early March USDA Drought Update

Spencer, IA — Much of Iowa sees only small changes this week, but drought conditions remain in place across a large part of the state.

Moderate drought, or D1, continues across northwest and southern Iowa, with a pocket of more serious D2-level drought in some southern counties.

The western half of the state is mostly in the “abnormally dry” category. Here in northwest Iowa, D1 Moderate Drought still covers the entire nine-county listening area, but there is some improvement in southern Pocahontas and Buena Vista counties, where conditions have been downgraded to “Abnormally Dry.”

The good news: several rounds of rain are possible over the next couple of days. If those systems deliver, we could see improvement in next week’s update.
