Early Morning Clay County House Fire Causes Damage, No Injuries

Dickens, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — There were no injuries in a rural Clay County house fire this (Wednesday) morning.

The Dickens Fire Department was paged to 2932 North 270th Avenue around 6:45. Fire Chief Kevin Whalen tells KICD News two occupants were already out of the structure when they arrived. The Fostoria and Spencer fire departments offered mututal aid, and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department and Spencer Hospital were also on scene.

Whalen says flames were located in a crawl space below a three-season porch and extinguished before they reached the rest of the house. A deck was also damaged by fire and the rest of the structure sustained smoke and water damage.

Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours. A cause has not been determined.
