Emmet County Candidate Filing Opens March 2 for June Primary

EMMET COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) — The filing period for candidates wishing to appear on the June 2 Primary Election ballot opens next week.

The Emmet County Auditor’s Office says the filing window begins Tuesday, March 2, and continues through Friday, March 20. Several county positions will be on the ballot this cycle, including County Attorney, County Treasurer, County Recorder, and two seats on the Emmet County Board of Supervisors.

Residents planning to run under either the Democratic or Republican Party must complete the required candidacy paperwork and meet the necessary signature requirements before submitting their materials.

Paperwork is available at the Emmet County Auditor’s Office, with electronic forms offered online through the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. Anyone with questions about the process or signature thresholds can contact the Auditor’s Office at 712-362-4261.

For the June 2, 2026, primary election, the filing period for all Iowa county offices —runs from March 2nd through March 20th. If you are looking at state or federal offices, that window is actually open right now, having started on February 23rd with a deadline of March 13th. Just remember that all nomination papers for local races must be filed with the County Auditor’s office by 5:00 PM on the closing date to be eligible for the ballot.
