Everly Man Hospitalized After Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 18

EVERLY, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 18 sent an Everly man to the hospital Monday morning.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 11:15 a.m. on November 17th in the 1100 mile of Highway 18. 76-year-old Steven Schuver of Everly was driving a 2020 Dodge Ram eastbound when he lost control and entered the north ditch.

Authorities say the truck struck a driveway at 1130 Highway 18, causing it to go airborne, clip a power pole, hit a tree, and roll before coming to rest on its wheels. Schuver suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported by ambulance to Spencer Municipal Hospital.

The vehicle was declared a total loss.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Everly Fire Department, Spencer Ambulance Service, Hartley Police Department, and Iowa State Patrol.

The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.
