Fire at POET Plant in Emmetsburg Ruled Arson

Emmetsburg, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The fire that burned for a week at the POET Biorefining plant for a week in Emmetsburg has been deemed arson.

The fire started on the evening of May 12th. Palo Alto County Sheriff John King tells Northwestiowanow.com he’d like any details – no matter how small that might assist in the investigation.

The company is offering a 10 thosuand dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest.
Plant Manager Benjamin Gustafson says approximately 5 million dollars of corn stover that fuels the plant was destroyed, and says he’s upset because the safety of his employees was also jeopardized.
