Hartley, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Rivals Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and South O’Brien collided Friday night in Hartley, with both programs looking for their first win of the year.
It was a tedious first half, where HMS scored a Touchdown in each quarter, while holding the Wolverines off the scoreboard. Both Alex and Jackson Vogt picked up those Touchdowns, and the Hawks led 14-0 going in to the half.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got a kick return for a Touchdown to begin the 2nd half, giving them a 21-0 gap.
South O’Brien was able to get on the scoreboard early in the 4th quarter after a 14 play drive that was finished with a Noah Wittrock Touchdown Run.
HMS answered with another quick score, as Alex Vogt picked off a pass, taking it back 45 yards for a Touchdown.
The Wolverines tacked on one more score late, but Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn rolled to a 28-14 win, evening up their record at 1-1 on the year.
HMS as a team spread 33 carries for 141 yards and two touchdowns out amongst 4 different rushers. South O’Brien got a nice effort from Noah Wittrock, who scored two Touchdowns on 98 carries for 100 yards.
Next up for the Wolverines is MMCRU at home while Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosts Sheldon for Non-District play.
