SPIRIT LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Three people were hospitalized following a collision Monday afternoon.
According to the Spirit Lake Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on August 11. A 2023 GMC pickup, driven by 22-year-old Carter Wallerich of Plainview, was traveling northbound on U.S. 71 with a boat in tow. Heading southbound was a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox operated by a 17-year-old female from Jackson, Minnesota.
While attempting to turn onto 34th Street, the Equinox entered the path of Wallerich’s pickup. The impact caused the trailer and boat to come to rest against a nearby stoplight pole.
The Equinox driver and two passengers—Jessica Remme and Dawn Stoltenberg, both of Jackson—were transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with non-incapacitating injuries. Wallerich was not injured.
The 17-year-old driver of the Equinox was cited for failure to yield.
