IOWA (Northwestiowanow.com) – State Senator Dave Rowley, a Republican from Dickinson County, expects property tax reform will be a top priority ahead of the 2026 legislative session.

The Iowa Legislative session begins today in Des Moines. Rowley says the issue will be addressed early.

Other priorities include education funding, with the state required to set the Supplemental State Aid rate within the first 30 days. Rowley says budget talks will follow later in the session, along with discussions on the Taxpayer Relief Fund.

A large issue carried over from last year is eminent domain and carbon pipelines. Rowley expects the debate to resurface.

Rowley says all three proposals are worth discussing and could gain traction despite some potential challenges.
