Estherville, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — The Estherville City Council welcomed new leadership Monday.

During the regular City Council meeting on November 17, two members took the oath of office to fill vacant seats. Steve Fanslau was sworn in to fill the Ward Four seat through the end of December. Fanslau was also elected earlier this month to a full four-year term beginning in January.

Tim Ahrens, who won a write-in campaign in this month’s elections, also took the oath of office for the Ward Three council seat.

Outgoing Mayor Kenny Billings made his final gesture as mayor, presenting Police Chief Brent Shatto with a statue of a police officer guiding a child by the hand.

 

 

Billings said the gift was in appreciation of Shatto’s dedication and service to the city.

 

 

Following the presentation, Tony Condon took the oath of office, officially becoming Estherville’s new mayor.

Condon says he is excited to step into the role.

Condon’s election as mayor introduces a vacancy in the Ward One council seat, which the city will address in the coming weeks.
